SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is one of the most popular web traffic generation strategies. The reason is it ensures free and qualified traffic of visitors to your site. And, by all means, organic traffic has the best conversion rate across all online marketing channels.
Different types of websites need a different approach for SEO. For example, SEO Strategy for a beauty & wellness website would be much other than an e-commerce website.
A blog is different from other types of content like websites of e-commerce or business. Therefore, the SEO strategies for blogs will also be different from websites to direct a high volume of traffic towards you.
The biggest differentiator is content. The usual strategy is to create content on other websites and build links, doing social marketing to get traffic and rank higher. But when it comes to blogs, new content has to be changed or added every day or every week.
Usually, a website with 10-15 pages needs one-time On-page SEO, followed by link building and social media marketing. But, when it comes to SEO for blogs, content pages keep increasing as we publish articles regularly. And, as the content keeps on growing, so does the need for regular on-page SEO and continuous link building.
The purpose of SEO for any content is the same, just the approach of doing it is different for websites & blogs.Decide niche & strategy.
Deciding a topic or concept on which you would develop your whole blog is the most important, I repeat, most important. I have seen many people starting a blog on a random niche without researching the prospects of the place or how profitable it will be. Later they regret it when it doesn’t lead to anything after wasting time and energy. And eventually quit because neither do they get traffic nor money. Use Google trends for searching keywords.
Once you select the niche, you can start setting up your blog and build a strategy to work. Here are a few things to be taken into account:Target Audience:
Always target the people who you think will be genuinely interested in your blog and the product/ service you sell.Create great posts:
Posts are the foundation of a blog, and you must make the base strong to get success. Your posts must be good enough to meet the above requirements. Always write a detailed blog post on one topic to give all the information on a single page. Readers will get distracted and lose interest if you keep writing short posts and interlink them to different posts.Updating blog consistently
It’s a no-brainer that blogs are consistently updated with new content, and refreshed content get more readers and loyal readers. Hence, the more frequently you update your blog, the more traffic you will get.Keyword Research
Keyword Research is the primary task of blog SEO. It holds the maximum importance because it sets the direction of your whole blog. It’s the keyword that will be the users’ input whom you are trying to drive towards your blog.
There are three steps through which you can find out profitable keywords:Find the keywords:
To start with, find out the keywords that can bring traffic.
A few easy ways are: by searching some related terms on Google. See at the bottom of the search page and collect those keywords to make the list of keywords.
For example, if you search Internet Marketing, you get these related searches at the bottom of the Google Search Page.
You can make a list of these keywords. And then move to the other ways of getting a few more keywords.
One of those ways can be Google Auto Suggest.Finding out the search Volume:
By now, you must be having an enormous list of keywords related to the topic you are working on. It’s time now to find out the search volume of these keywords.
For this, we use Google Keyword Planner. Here, I have entered a few keywords, and Google keyword planner showed their search volumes:
This tool also shows related keywords along with the seeded keywords.
Now that you have the most searched keywords around your topic, the next important step is to analyze the competition for the keywords’ traffic. Use the Long Tail Pro Keyword tool for this. It has a column Keyword Competitiveness, which tells you how competitive a particular keyword is.Content optimization for keyword
Once you have the list of best keywords with a fair number of searches and low competition in organic search, you should write and optimize your post around those keywords.
The number of keywords you want to have is your choice. The suggestion is 2-3 keywords and is enough per blog post. Out of this, one keyword will be the primary target, and the other two will be the secondary targets.
Here are the essential parts where you must put your keywords:
Title: The Title is a crucial part of an article, and it should not only be SEO optimized, but it should also be compelling enough to grab more eyeballs and clicks when it is shared on social sites or viewed in SERPs.
For example, Internet Marketing Strategies for Noobs
In the Title above, the keyword is Internet Marketing Strategies, placed in the beginning.
URL: The URL of the webpage must contain the primary keyword. You should try to place the target keyword at the beginning in URLs, just like in the Title.
Content: Never stuff too many keywords in your blog for optimizing it because it beats the article’s purpose, rendering it of no use for readers. You can follow the below-mentioned guidelines for using keywords in content:
1. Use the primary keyword in the first 150 words of the post, along with a secondary keyword.
2. Use the primary keyword 2-3 times and secondary keywords 2-3 times within a 1000 words article. The frequency varies as per the content length. Try to keep the primary keyword in H1, H2, H3 tags.
3. Use the Primary keyword in the last paragraph.
Always use keywords as a part of the content naturally, and please don’t use them to break the flow of the content.
